This Friday's fun fact - Breakdown!

From Two Trucks to one truck on our way to the gig

The picture was taken from the inside of the over-crowded cab of a pickup, through the back window. I don't remember a lot of the details since it was so long ago, but I do remember three or four of us on the back of the pickup, holding gear so it wouldn't fall off. (3 faces in the picture, but they're very difficult to see).

I also remember that the gig was at the Gallupville, NY firehouse, and we were the opener for a local band named Feedback, made up of  friends of ours. Most importantly, despite the misfortune of a breakdown, I remember it being a great night with friends and music!

This was created from a guitar riff that Dave played a few times; but we never used in any of our song creations. I always loved it and have played it often through the years. Dave's Tune (Brothers Lost), is built around that guitar piece as a tribute to Dave Goodfellow, the musician and the friend.

Shades Of Grey

               Shades of Grey was a local, upstate NY group from the mid 1980's through the early 90's. During that short time, a lot of great music was made. Through practice tapes, (cassettes) notebooks, and great memories, two of the three surviving members and their good friend Ed, are on a quest to recapture some of the great moments and musical works shared as a band.

The plan is to release three, ten song volumes of original Shades of Grey works. Not without some embellishments and added extras. Check out some of the great New Works that were created by the revisiting of old ideas with new perspectives.

As of this writing, Volume One is about 95% complete, Volume Two is approximately 60%, and Volume Three is roughly 40% complete. All things willing Volume One will be available by Christmas 2023!

Volume 1 by Christmas, all willing! The Witch is the first single of three volumes we plan to release. This is by no means the best work of the collection, but what better way to kick off Halloween than with the Witch?

The Witch was originally written by Floyd Armlin and Todd Duke in a hurried, guitar to lyric, spur of the moment, throw together song. It was easy to sell these simple type songs live because we could give them energy. We were built around improvising. A simple progression like this, is a bit tougher to bring to life, in a new age, and 100% remotely.

I think we nailed it!

Fun Fact ...about the recording process of The Witch. The wicked laugh heard in The Witch are made from a recording of Floyd's wife's laugh. Any wickedness was added in production. She has a great natural laugh! Sign up for more fun facts!
